How Iranian Hair Is Collected: From Village to Warehouse

25 AUG 2026 · BY THE IRANIANHAIR TEAM · 5 MIN READ

Most hair vendors treat their supply chain as a secret. We think the opposite: in a market full of relabeled and mixed hair, showing exactly where the product comes from is the strongest sales argument there is. Here is ours, step by step.

Step 1 — The Collectors

Hair collection in Iran runs on a network of professional collectors who travel through villages and buy hair directly from women who choose to sell it. It works in both directions: collectors go door to door, and donors who want to sell seek out a collector themselves. Every cut is a voluntary cash transaction, priced per head.

This matters more than it sounds. Indian temple hair is a religious offering auctioned by institutions; "standard" hair in much of the trade is gathered from combs and salon floors with no traceable origin. Iranian hair enters the market the cleanest way possible: one donor, one cut, one payment.

Step 2 — Consolidation

Collectors bring their gathered ponytails to larger buyers. This is the stage where quality is made or lost: an experienced buyer inspects each lot for fullness, natural color and processing history before paying. Because a single Iranian donor typically yields 150 grams or more per cut, the good lots arrive as substantial single-donor ponytails — not thin wisps that must be blended.

Step 3 — Sorting and Preparation in Istanbul

Consolidated lots travel to our Istanbul facility, where they are sorted by length, texture and natural shade, washed with shampoo only — no chemicals, no processing — and photographed. Each prepared lot then goes onto the live stock board as a numbered package with its real weight and full price.

FAQ

Who collects Iranian hair?
Professional hair collectors travel through villages and buy hair directly from donors for cash. Donors who want to sell can also seek out a collector themselves. Collectors then bring what they gather to larger buyers like us.
Are donors paid for their hair?
Yes — every cut is a voluntary cash sale, priced per head. Unlike temple hair, which is given as a religious offering and auctioned by institutions, Iranian hair enters the market as a direct commercial transaction with the donor.
What happens to the hair after collection?
Collected ponytails are consolidated, then sorted by length, texture and color at our Istanbul facility, washed with shampoo only, and listed as numbered packages on our live stock board.
