Iranian Hair vs Indian Hair: The Difference Is Measured in Grams

25 AUG 2026 · BY THE IRANIANHAIR TEAM · 6 MIN READ

Ask ten vendors what makes their origin special and you will hear ten vague answers about "quality". Here is a concrete one instead — a number you can put on a scale: grams per donor.

The One Number That Tells You Almost Everything

When a standard donor in the global trade — India included — has her hair cut, the ponytail typically weighs 50 to 100 grams: thin strands, modest density. Factories then either combine hair from many donors into fuller bundles, or sell it as-is in thin wisps. Either way, what you buy is a compromise: mixed heads, or bundles too thin to work with.

The Iranian hair we source is different at the point of cutting: a single donor yields a minimum of 150 grams — often more. The hair is naturally full-bodied and voluminous. That is not a processing trick or clever bundling; it is what comes off one head, in one cut.

Why Grams per Donor Matters Downstream

Where Indian Hair Still Wins

Honesty builds better suppliers: if you need maximum volume at minimum price, India's scale is unmatched — thousands of tonnes a year at $80–250/kg. For budget extension lines that will be processed heavily anyway, Indian hair is a rational buy. But if your product depends on fullness, longevity and color work — premium wigs, toppers, luxury extensions — the grams-per-donor difference is the whole game.

FAQ

What is the main difference between Iranian and Indian hair?
Weight per donor. A standard donor cut in the global trade yields 50–100 grams of fairly thin strands. The Iranian hair we source yields a minimum of 150 grams per donor — visibly fuller, denser bundles from a single head.
Is Iranian hair easier to color than Indian hair?
In our experience, yes. Iranian hair is naturally brown to lighter shades rather than deep black, so reaching blonde and fashion colors takes less lifting — which means less chemical stress and a healthier end product.
Can Iranian hair be used for both wigs and extensions?
Yes. The combination of fullness, durability and lighter natural base color makes it suitable for premium wig making and for extension lines — one of the few origins that serves both markets well.
